Former East softball catcher Lexie Elkins, now at Louisiana-Lafayette, was named Sun Belt player of the week Monday. Elkins, a sophomore at ULL, hit three home runs and drove in nine runs. Elkins picked up the player of the week honor in her first weekend as a member of the Ragin' Cajuns after transferring from Texas Tech in the summer.

Elkins kicked off her week with a pair of home runs in her Ragin' Cajuns debut. Her first home run kicked off a three-run seventh inning to force extra innings, and in the eighth inning, she launched a game-winning home run, to propel the Cajuns past Northern Iowa.

She finished the weekend with a .474 (9-for-19) batting average, while leading the team with three home runs and nine RBI.
