Two East tennis players still have a shot of making it to Regionals after the first day of the 30-4A championships at Tuloso-Midway. Collin Janecka is playing for third place in boys' singles Tuesday against Michael John of Calallen, while the Titans' Kaylee Huang is in the third place match in girls' singles against Maddie Patzner of Tuloso-Midway. Titans head coach Tony Williams told me that if both his players win their matches there could be a playback match against the loser of the finals. The winner of that match would go to Regionals. Several West players were eliminated after losing in the second round including Chase Bennett and McKinley Pruski in mixed doubles, Mary Beth Ellis and Brittany Heibel in girls doubles (after losing to a Calhoun twosome), Antonio Villarreal and Wyatt Marks in boys doubles (after losing to a Calhoun twosome), and Samantha Candia and Lexie Kovar in girls singles.
