Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Eagles didn't waste any time making their latest acquisition happy, extending the contract of running back Darren Sproles for two years through the 2016 season.

The Eagles acquired Sproles on Thursday from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 2014 fifth-round draft pick.

Sproles played in 15 games last season for the Saints, rushing for 220 yards and two touchdowns while hauling in 71 passes for 604 yards and two scores.

Over his nine-year career with the Saints and San Diego Chargers, Sproles has been an effective threat on the ground and through the air. He has rushed for 2,221 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught 378 passes for 3,381 yards and 27 touchdowns.
