Irving, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys have released safety Gerald Sensabaugh in an effort to clear salary cap space.

Sensabaugh spent four seasons with the Cowboys and signed a five-year contract extension in December 2011. He announced the news via Twitter on Monday.

"Been informed I'm being released for cap purposes...had a great run #CowboyNation I appreciate the organization and my teammates," Sensabaugh wrote.
