St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Cardinals promoted prized prospect Oscar Taveras from Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.

Taveras, a 21-year-old outfielder, will take the roster spot of first baseman Matt Adams, who landed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf.

Taveras was hitting a team-best .325 in 49 games with Memphis and totaled seven homers and 40 RBI.

Signed by the Cardinals in 2008 out of the Dominican Republic, Taveras was rated by Baseball America as the club's top prospect each of the past two years. He has a career .321 batting average in the minors.

Adams has played in 52 games for the Cardinals this season, hitting .325 with three homers and 17 RBI.
