24th Annual CCA State of Texas Anglers’ Rodeo
The 24th Annual CCA/Ford/Tilson Homes
Corp/Capital Farm Credit State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo came to a close at 5PM
on Labor Day, Sept. 2 and with quite an unexpected finish! This turned out to be the year for the Lady Anglers! Three of the scholarships were won by young
ladies who turned in their winning catch just days before the close and one
even caught hers on the last day of the tournament! Another lucky gal even caught a tagged redfish
and will be driving home a truck/boat prize package! Great job, Girls!!!
Another exciting highlight was the ten year old boy
from Danbury who caught a tagged redfish on the second day of the tournament! This lucky young man has won a $20,000
scholarship, plus a Haynie 23’ Big Foot boat, Mercury 150 L Pro XS OptiMax
motor and Coastline trailer. Way to go,
Caleb!!! Eleven tagged redfish were caught
resulting in a total of SIX winners this year.
The other five, unfortunately, did not qualify for the CCA Texas STAR.

TOURNAMENT RECAP - The Texas Ford
Dealers Redfish Division had a total of SIX
lucky winners! Five will be driving home the awesome Ford F-150
Texas Edition truck with a Haynie 23 BigFoot boat, Mercury 150 OptiMax Pro XS
motor and Coastline trailer package and one will take home a Haynie 23 BigFoot
boat, Mercury 150 OptiMax Pro XS motor and Coastline trailer package. Sadly, there were FIVE unfortunate anglers who lost out on prizes to the tune of
about $35,000 - $70,000 each!!!
year’s tournament offered 123 fabulous prizes.
A total of 116 prizes were claimed and the twenty-seven top prizes will be presented to the winners during the
CCA State of Texas BBQ and STAR Awards Ceremony on Oct. 3rd at the
Bayou City Event Center! These are the
lucky winners of each division:
Farm Credit StarKids Scholarship Flounder Division – The StarKids Scholarship Flounder Division will provide
a young angler between the ages of six and ten with a college scholarships
totaling $50,000 for catching the largest flounder. This year’s winner is Nicholas Gilstrap, age
8, of Santa Fe – 5 lbs. 7 ozs.
Houston Community Newspapers StarKids Scholarship Sheepshead
Division – The
Houston Community Newspapers StarKid Scholarship Sheepshead Division will
provide a young angler between the ages of six and ten with a college
scholarships totaling $50,000 catching the largest sheepshead. This year’s winner is Allison Schwartz, age
8, of Texas City – 7 lbs., 6 ozs.
FS Southwest StarKids Scholarship Gafftop Division – The StarKids Scholarship Gafftop
Division will provide a young angler between the ages of six and ten with a
college scholarships totaling $50,000 for catching the largest gafftop. This year’s winner is Anthony Bellanger, age
9, of Orange - 6 lbs., 12 ozs.
Sports and Outdoors StarTeens Scholarship Trout Division - The Academy Sports and Outdoors StarTeens
Scholarship Trout Division was open to all New Tide/STAR members ages
11-17. These fisher-teens with the
largest speckled trout in each region -- upper, middle and lower coast – will
be awarded a $20,000 college scholarship:
Coast: Nicholas Josey, age 17, of
Houston 7 lbs., 4 oz.
Coast: Sarah Otto, age 14, of Corpus
Christi 8 lbs., 0 ozs.
Coast: Cole McGrew, age 17, of

Warner Cable StarTeens Inshore Scholarship Division – The Time Warner Cable StarTeens Scholarship Inshore
Division was open to all New Tide STAR members ages 11-17. These fisher-teens with the largest flounder,

these ten scholarships is truly the highlight of the year for STAR and makes a
serious statement toward getting kids on the water. We couldn’t be happier for these kids and
their families. The kids are really what
the tournament is all about. They are the future generation that will keep the
vitality of our precious marine resource going for years to come. This brings our total awarded scholarships to

New Tide Member Scholarship Drawing – All 2013 “New Tide” Members (ages 6 - 17) were eligible for a bonus drawing that netted one
lucky youth a $20,000 college scholarship.
