Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Atlanta Braves pitcher Jonny Venters has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, manager Fredi Gonzalez said Thursday.

Gonzalez said the torn UCL was discovered during an examination by surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

Venters, 29, hasn't appeared in a game since the 2012 season and was working his way back from a second Tommy John -- or UCL replacement -- surgery on his pitching elbow.

Atlanta signed the former bullpen stalwart to a one-year, $1.625 million deal in December.

The Braves were in New York to finish a series with the Mets.
