Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Braves have activated pitcher Gavin Floyd off the 15-day disabled list and announced he will start Tuesday for injured hurler Ervin Santana.
Santana has a bruised thumb and will have his scheduled start pushed back to next Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.
Floyd, meanwhile, will make his Braves debut against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is coming off Tommy John surgery performed last May and signed an incentive-laden deal with Atlanta in December.
The 31-year-old right-hander was 0-4 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts last season for the Chicago White Sox. He spent seven seasons in Chicago after pitching his first three years in Philadelphia.
Floyd owns a career record of 70-70 with a 4.48 ERA in 199 games, all but 12 as a starter.
The Braves opened a roster spot by optioning lefty reliever Ian Thomas to Triple-A Gwinnett. Thomas was 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in 10 games this season.
