UHV Softball Finishes In Top 20

The University of Houston-Victoria softball team moved up
six spots Wednesday to finish the 2013 season ranked No. 18 in the 2013 NAIA
Softball Coaches’ Postseason Top 25 poll.


The Jaguars finished the 2013 season with a 32-22 record
and a berth in the NAIA National Championships Opening Round Tournament where
they fell in the championship game of the Lubbock Bracket.


UHV received 216 points in the final voting to move up
from No. 24.


National champion Concordia (Calif.) received all 20
first-place votes and was an unanimously No. 1 with 560 points, while Spring
Hill (Ala.), the NAIA runner-up, moved up from No. 15 to No. 2 with 537 points.


Lubbock Christian, who the Jaguars lost to in the Lubbock
Bracket finals, finished at No. 3 with 527 points, while Williams Baptist
(Ark.) was No. 4 with 506 points and Oklahoma City rounded out the top five at
No. 5 with 483 points.


The Jaguars defeated Lubbock Christian 5-1 to force a
second and deciding game in the Lubbock Bracket. UHV took an early 2-0 lead
before LCU rallied back to eliminate the Jaguars with an 8-3 win in the
deciding game.


The Jaguars will lose just three seniors from their 2013
squad – shortstop Brittany Arredondo, pitcher Dawn Villegas and designated
player/first baseman Jena West.
