University of Houston-Victoria second baseman Stephen
Shorkey has been named the Association of Independent Institutions Conference
Male Athlete of the Week for the week of April 15-21.



 



A junior from Pearland, Shorkey helped spark the Jaguars
to a perfect 6-0 week that included four wins over A.I.I. Conference foe
LSU-Alexandria.



 



He compiled a .600 batting average going 12-for-20 with
10 runs scored, three RBI, a triple and his first home run of the season. He
had a .850 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage, along with two
stolen bases. He also extended his current hitting streak to six games.



 



In a four-game weekend series against LSUA he went
7-for-14 and scored six runs.



 



For the season he is hitting at a .314 clip with 16 runs,
nine RBI, a triple and a home run. He has a .362 slugging percentage, a .330
on-base average and five stolen bases in 36 games.
