West Seniors Sworn into the Marine Corps
America is a little safer, thanks to some high schoolers from the Crossroads. The United States Marine Corps has a handful of new recruits from Victoria. Tuesday five seniors from Victoria West high school were sworn-in. Victoria West high school senior Ashley Sanchez is the only female out of 5 recruits from Victoria. Tuesday morning she along with her peers got a hands on lesson of what to expect in boot camp and she stated that she's up for the challenge. Major Jeremiah Salame said before being sworn in, the recruits had to undergo and extensive physical and score high enough on the armed services vocational aptitude battery test, proving it’s about brains, not just about the brawn. Major Salame said it's a misconception that the Marine Corps doesn't offer a wide variety of career opportunities aside from infantry. A total of 9 high school seniors from the Crossroads area have been sworn in. They leave for boot camp in 2 to 3 months after graduation.
