Victoria Man to Receive Lethal Injection

Tuesday the life of a Victoria man, convicted of murder, is scheduled to come to an end.

Texas death row inmate 36-year-old John Quintanilla has lost a federal court appeal aimed at stopping his scheduled execution Tuesday for the slaying of retired Jackson County Sheriff's deputy 60-year-old Victor Billings.  Billings was murdered by Quintanilla during a robbery in Victoria ten years ago. Quintanilla's lawyers said they'll now head to the U.S. Supreme Court to try to save the 36-year-old from lethal injection Tuesday evening in Huntsville.

The 5th U.S. circuit court of appeals over the weekend refused Quintanilla's appeal. According to our research, this is the first execution coming out of Victoria since 1998 and the Victoria County D.A.'s office said it's the first of its kind, a case with a Victoria man, murder, D.A., and jury in about 100 years.
