VISD School Board Elections
It’s also out with the old and in with the new at VISD. It seems like we just finished-up election season in November but already, there's another ballot box in the city of Victoria’s near future.
Elections for mayor, city council, and school board are coming up in May. School board members are considered the life blood of the district. Three trustee seats with VISD will be on the ballot in the upcoming city elections in May, each elected member plays a very important role when making educational decisions. Diane Boyett, VISD’s Public Relations Director stated that even though just three of the total seven school board trustees are up for election, this race is important for everyone in the district. Every area of VISD is represented by two trustees on the school board. Incumbents Michael Disanto in super district seven and Bernard Klimist in super district six, combined represent VISD entirely. District one is a single member district represented by incumbent Kevin Van Hook. We attempted to contact Van Hook and Disanto, but were unsuccessful.
School board elections, along with city elections, will be held on May 11th, with early voting beginning on April 29th. Each school board member is elected to three year terms, and each one elected in at different times. Those interested in running for a school board position have until March first to file.
