Tax Fraud
Its tax time and Wednesday night, there are new warnings out about tax fraud. According to the IRS, tax preparer fraud occurs when they alter return information without their clients' knowledge or consent in an attempt to obtain improperly inflated refunds or to divert refunds for their personal benefit. In order to find a trustworthy professional to prepare your taxes, the Better Business Bureau recommends getting referrals from friends and family and doing your research. You can check out preparers at www.bbb.org look at their credentials, get a firm estimate in writing, and don't fall for the promise of a big refund and, protect your identity the IRS and tax preparation software companies do not initiate taxpayer communications through email. Unsolicited emails claiming to be from the IRS, or from an IRS-related component, could be a scam. You can report them to the IRS through this address: "Phishing at www.irs.gov"
