Public Hearing on Vote Centers

Tuesday night many people at the public forum voiced their concerns about closing down certain polling locations, which ones to keep open, and some wanted to keep them all open.

In Victoria County, voting locations would go down from 35 precincts to 23 voting centers. Elections Administrator George Matthews said cutting down on voting places would help utilize their elections equipment in the best way since it is limited and vote centers would allow residents to vote anywhere. Matthews said the county commissioner’s court is being asked to approve this plan next Monday and then it will be sent off to the Secretary of State. He said the state must answer no later than March 8th because then Victoria election officials must make their submission to the Justice Department.
