The health of our world's most holy man, the Pope, has caused him to resign. Pope Benedict the 16th's shocking announcement caught everyone in the catholic community by surprise Monday.
On April 19, 2005 Joseph Ratzinger formally became known as Pope Benedict the 16th but on Monday he made an unexpected announcement. 85-year-old Pope Benedict the 16th, resigned Monday saying, "My strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine Ministry.”
The Pope's decision to step down is something that hasn’t happened in hundreds of years and after February 28th, the Papacy will be vacant but not for long. Now Bishop David E. Fellhauer said the election of a new Pope by the Cardinals will be as quick as possible as no significant decisions can be made within the church without one.
