Law Enforcement Ammunition Shortages
As the gun debate continues, Americans are buying guns in record numbers over fears of stricter gun laws and it's creating a shortage of ammunition. While it’s good news for suppliers, it’s not such a hit with law enforcement agencies that are now facing ammunition shortages. According to the AP, dozens of police and sheriff's departments are struggling with year-long delays for certain ammo.
Captain Philip Dennis said the Victoria County Sheriff's Office isn't low on ammunition yet, although he said that it’s because they take precautions like purchasing more than they need to ensure they don't run low on ammo because being low would hurt the departments training and use of force. Dennis said he doesn't expect the ammo-buying trend to continue. The Sheriff’s Office said that they are going to try to use any extra funds they have to purchase ammo.
