Hwy 59 Accident

A five car pileup this morning shuts down a major Crossroad’s highway for two hours and wreaked havoc for morning commuters.

According to Texas D.P.S. troopers, the accident happened just before 7 this morning. An 18-wheeler pulled out of the rest stop near Inez headed south on highway 59, when it was hit by a Dodge truck. The impact pinned the Dodge, between another 18-wheeler. A welding unit on the Dodge fell off the truck and landed on the highway. The unit was hit by another pickup truck, and then a van. The second truck caught on fire but was quickly put out.

Traffic in the area was detoured for about two hours while crews cleared the scene. The driver of the welding truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
