Shortly before 9 a.m on Saturday, authorities rushed to a house fire off Guadalupe Street.
At 8:46 a.m. on Saturday, the Victoria Fire Department responded to a house fire at the 1600 block of East Guadalupe Street. According to the VFD, heavy flames and smoke poured out the front windows of the home. Crews rushed inside the home searching for occupants. Officials say one person was confirmed dead at the scene. The Justice of Peace, Stuart Posey, determined the death at 8:55 a.m. on Saturday and ordered that the body be sent to Austin for an autopsy. Officials say the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Officials say two other victims were injured during the blaze and were treated at the scene by crews but refused transport to a local hospital. Officials say the blaze damaged about 75% of the home. The house next door also suffered exterior damage from the fire.
The local Red Cross chapter has been contacted and is assisting the family with support services.
The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and officials say it may take several weeks to complete the investigation. Stay with Newscenter25 as the story continues to develop.
