Airport Tower Deadline Passed
Just weeks remain until the tower at the Victoria Regional Airport closes because of federal cuts. Monday had some good news for the future of the tower.
Victoria county leaders received a private bid today that would keep the tower up and running but it may not be enough. After weeks of advertising, on Monday Victoria County leaders received one bid to operate the air traffic control tower at Victoria Regional. The tower is scheduled to close on April 21st after budget cuts.
Victoria County Judge Don Pozzi said the bid from clear flights, a local aviation company, would only provide a temporary solution. Pozzi is hoping Txdot will step in to take over the tower, proving a more permanent solution but he hopes Txdots proposed funding will make local funding unnecessary.
According to Victoria Regional manager Jason Milewski he was notified, a couple days ago of further details from Txdot. The funding from Txdot is not set in stone; they are meeting this week on the final details of the funding.
