A big surprise for the west high school cheerleaders Thursday morning: a surprise send-off for the twelve girls headed to the national championship. Dozens of students gathered to say good bye and good luck to the girls.

They are on their way to New Orleans for their final competition of the year, the WSA Grand Nationals. There, they will show off their skills for a chance to win the big title.

“We are about to leave for New Orleans, WSA Nationals. We’re going to compete against 14 other schools and hopefully place,” Cheer Captain, Kindle Burns said.

“It’s something that they've kind of built up for all year. They've worked really hard so they're ready to get out there and show what they've got on the mat,” Head Coach, Phallon Crawford, said.

The girls will practice Thursday and Friday, and the competition will begin Saturday.
