Wal-Mart Shoplifting in Port Lavaca

Shoplifting is becoming all too popular at one mega retailer in Port Lavaca.

Pulling up to Walmart and loading up shopping carts with random merchandise is something Port Lavaca police are seeing more and more of. In fact, police said it's something they see at least once or twice a week. On Tuesday, officers had to respond to yet another case of shoplifting. Police said they arrested 32-year-old Christopher Perez after receiving a phone call from Walmart employees that he was attempting to steal merchandise. Police said Perez appeared intoxicated and put up a fight with employees as they detained him. Perez was arrested for theft of property and possession of a controlled substance.

With full carts and no receipts heading out the doors, Walmart officials said they have made some changes. Walmart officials can't release their security measures for safety purposes, but said they are working closely with police to put an end to the trend. Police added they will be reviewing surveillance video of the incident that occurred Tuesday at Walmart. They said Perez could face additional assault charges.
