On Saturday, the Victoria Police Department was helping citizens prevent the theft of their own vehicles. The VIN number etching event was held at the Patty Welder Middle School this morning and was free to the public. Police say each vehicle has a VIN number on the dash board, and to ensure that the number stays with the vehicle, authorities etched the VIN number's onto the window. Police say car thieves
often replace windows with new fake plates but if they see the VIN etch it forces them to replace all the windows and dispose of the glass, costing them time and money. Authorities say it will make thefts think
twice before taking your vehicle.
