VISD Offers Counseling After Fatal Fire
Tragedy struck Victoria on Saturday, when a 12-year-old child was killed in a house fire. Orlando Navarro was as student at Patti Welder middle school, and Monday was the first day back to school for students since the sad news. VISD has prepared grief counselors for the students and staff to help deal with the loss.
On Saturday 7th grade Patti Welder middle school student Orlando Navarro was killed in a house fire. Fire officials rushed to his house that was fully engulfed in flames on the 16 hundred block of East Guadalupe Street. Orlando was found dead inside. Monday was the first day back to school since the student’s death. According to Diane Boyett with VISD, grief counselors have been assigned to help students and staff to cope with the loss. Boyett said there have been quite a few students who needed to see the counselors. She said at this age it’s very difficult to process a crisis like death and the grief counselors will be at the school for as long as they are needed.
Officials are still investigating what caused the fire.
