UHV’s First Police Officer

A safety first for the University of Houston Victoria. The university has hired its first-ever police officer hoping to beef-up security at the growing campus.

Sergeant Eric "Rick" Gammon started his new job Tuesday at UHV. He was hired following a national search by the U-of-H police department. A portion of Gammon's salary is covered by a U.S. Department of Justice grant UHV received in November of 2011. The 42-year-old will work patrol, criminal investigation, violence prevention and reporting of campus crime statistics. With the addition of freshman and sophomores in 2010, and the opening of a third residence hall, more students are spending more time on campus. The school's president said, the addition of a full-time police officer is part of the natural progression of UHV becoming a residential university.

UHV currently has five security officers patrolling the campus who will now report to Gammon.
