Tug Boat Christening

There was some more buoyant news from Port Lavaca Wednesday. The coastal city is officially unveiling a new state-of-the-art attraction: a multi-million dollar boat, officials said will give the area a huge economic boost.

The City of Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce held a ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the newest addition to point comfort towing's fleet. Carl is what they are calling the new 10-million dollar tug boat. Carl which took two years to construct measures 96-feet-long and 38-feet-wide and was built by Main Iron Works, a company specializing in tug boat construction based out of Houma, Louisiana. The tug boat's purpose will be to assist ships in an out of the Port.

The new addition should have a huge economic impact. The ships that dock at the Port belong to Alcoa or Formosa and transport chemicals to and from the plants.
