National Stalking Awareness
Aside from beefing up security, UHV is educating their students on stalking victimization. The month of January is National Stalking Awareness month. This evening dozens of students gathered in jaguar hall for a presentation over how serious stalking can be. Students were educated on how stalkers use technology and how to keep from becoming a victim. Representatives from Victoria Police Department and Mid-Coast Family Services were on hand. Elena Torres, who is the campus Victim Advocate of UHV, said students are more at risk for stalking than other populations. If students on UHV campus need help they can contact Elena Torres, UHV Campus Victim Advocate at 361-570-4141 or if anyone in the community needs help they can contact Mid-Coast Family Services at 361-575-7842 or visit www.midcoastfamily.org
