Minimum Wage Increase

In Tuesday night's address, President Obama highlighted many hot topics from background checks on gun buyers to immigration reform to even raising the minimum wage to nine dollars.

This would mean a near 20% wage increase for Texas employees but at what cost? Many believe this increase in paychecks could eventually lead to an increase in unemployment. In his fifth state of the union, President Obama proposed a proposal that has some local business owners on the fence.

Louise Hull Patillo, owner of the Pumphouse Riverside Restaurant & Bar said while a high paycheck would benefit most, other employees or even consumers could ultimately be the ones who pay. However, some employees say having deeper pockets wouldn't be a bad thing. If the new wage is approved, the President hopes to have it gradually increased over the next couple of years, leading to a general nine dollars per hour for all states by the end of 2015.
