Victoria, TX (KAVU) - It may be the end of September but DeLeon Plaza was spiced up for the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival.
On Saturday, many people in the Crossroads of Hispanic heritage were celebrating Hispanic heritage month and Diez y Seis de Septiembre, which is the day of Mexico's independence. Attendees enjoyed food, dancing, arts and crafts and music at DeLeon Plaza to celebrate their culture with traditions. Besides the fun, Frank Salazar, who was one of the host of the event said this month is very special to him.
"It means everything to me. I'm Mexican American and I am very proud of being that. In Victoria, it's influenced by lots of hispanics. Not only Mexican Americans but there are a lot of other Latin American races here. We celebrate it very proud. It is a way to keep our heritage and teach the little ones," said Salazar.
The event ends at midnight and includes performances by Grammy Award-winning musical group La Mafia, Solido and La Fiebre.
