The Gonzales Sheriff’s Office said that their deputies had been keeping a close eye on a marijuana growing operation on Wednesday.
Gonzales County Sheriff, Glen Sachtleben said,” While on surveillance a team of my deputies were in the area north of welder watching for some people who had been gardening marijuana; two men arrived at the place where the officers were. When the officers identified themselves, one of the men fired on one of my officers, my officers returned fire and that subject was subsequently deceased.”
Gonzales Deputies had this area under surveillance for about three to four months now, but on this particular night when the deputies were scoping out the property things went south.
The man who died at the scene's name has not been released, but deputies did manage to make an arrest. That suspect is now in the county jail and is pending an attempted capital murder charge because he fired at police officers. Luckily none of the six officers, who were there, were injured.
