Fatal Wreck on Highway 77

One person died, and three more, including two children, were injured Monday night in a two-vehicle accident in Victoria County.

The wreck happened at about 8:30pm on U.S. Highway 77.

According to DPS, for unknown reasons, a black Mazda driving northbound came into the southbound lane, colliding with a silver Dodge Challenger.

The driver of the Mazda, 21-year-old Jonathan Stithem, of Victoria, died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge and her two children were transported to DeTar Hospital with unknown injuries, but DPS officials said they were in stable condition Monday night. The highway was closed for hours.
