- A Port Lavaca family woke up to an explosion Friday.
According to the homeowner Johnny Rivera, they rushed downstairs to see what was going on, and noticed a fire had started on their neighbor's property.
Rivera said he then dialed 911.
More than 30 fire fighters from 6 stations were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze that started around 1:30a.m. when, somehow, pallets caught fire.
The neighbor's home is located on the 800 Block of Spur 159, and while it's not registered as a business, authorities said the owner was running pallets from his property.
According to fire officials, it took more than seven hours to put out the flames.
Rivera said he was worried the fire would reach his propane tank. "It scared me, because I've got a propane tank, because if the fire had gotten anywhere near the tank, it would have been a major disaster," Rivera said.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation
