Edna Duo Arrested On Forgery Charges

CUERO - A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday for allegedly writing, and cashing, fake checks around the Crossroads. 

After a series of mailbox thefts, the duo from Edna face forgery charges in DeWitt County. 

Lupe Ann Arriaga, and Alonzo Abel Covarrubias, were arrested at a home in Edna by DeWitt County Sheriff's Deputies around 4 p.m. Wednesday. 

DeWitt County Crime Stoppers had been looking for the two after a series of mail thefts, which authorities said led to the duo forging and cashing checks.

According to DCSO officials, tips started coming in after news media ran a story on the forgery, which led people calling-in and identifying the suspects. 

Arriaga and Covarubbias are each charged with four counts of forgery of a financial instrument, their bond has been set at $100,000 for each charge.
