The City of Cuero Fire Department was battling something other than fires Saturday. From 8am-2pm the firefighters were collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters camped out at the corner of Broadway and Hunt and Esplanade and Church. Mark Ley with the Cuero Fire Department said they put on this fundraiser once a year right before Labor Day. "We have been collecting for the MDA for 15 years now. With the support of the community it has really grown into a big thing here. The money we collect goes to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and I know they use it to fund research for a cure and to help kids that are disabled by the disease now", Ley said.
According to Ley the fire department raised about $2200.
