City Council One Step Closer to Sell Land

Tuesday night the city of Victoria was making moves involving city property changing hands. From a controversial piece of land downtown, to a million-dollar listing on Navarro, Tuesday night council members would decide where the contracts fall.

On Tuesday night city council gave the first green light for the city to move forward with the selling of the property at Navarro near Glascow. The location currently houses the city of Victoria Public Works office and maintenance equipment. Lynn short with Victoria Public Works said selling their current location will allow public works to move to a new location on Ben Jordan. Public works will have some company in their new move. City officials also plan to build a waste water facility next at the same location on Ben Jordan, next door to the new fire department training facility. O.C. Garza with Victoria said they're targeting 2015 for the completion of all of the changes. City leaders hope to lease the property on Navarro for a short time while they move, but hope it can develop into a retail center.

Council members approved the ordinance unanimously Tuesday night but it will be voted on again during their next meeting to make it official. Council members also approved details for upcoming elections in May and for the second time council members, also approved the transfer a controversial piece of property along Deleon Street to St. Joseph high school.
