Campus Security
Tuesday's shooting has put the question of college campus safety under the microscope. Here in Victoria, campus security at the UHV told us about their protocols and how they keep their campus safe.
It's a frightening scene that has now hit a Texas campus this year: police, guns, and victims. Tuesday afternoon 3 people were injured in a shooting at Lone Star College in north Houston. With Tuesday’s shooting too close to home security at the University of Houston Victoria are speaking out.
Genaro Cortez with UHV said the campus is able to notify students, staff and faculty members through phone, email, its website and on social media, if an incident were to occur. He said the key to campus safety is proper training. Cortez added that Victoria College has both security and police officers on campus and that there is currently a task team at the UHV main campus that is working on a plan to notify all UHV system university students, staff and faculty if an incident were to occur on any UHV campus.
