A little girl with a big heart is changing lives and leaving an impression on the community. For that she has been named this week's Hometown Hero.
Jonbenet Limon is your typical 9-year-old girl. She likes to play game son her laptop, hang out with friends, play soccer and shop. But, she also stands apart from others her age because of her big heart. She recently saved up her allowance, donating it to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "A lot of girls would probably want to buy shoes and give $5 to St Jude. I would be like why, they need more. Yes $5 is good, but they have cancer so you want to give them more," said Jonbenet.
After making her donation, Jonbenet received a picture of a 5-year-old girl who is being helped by her gift. Jonbenet recalls, "I got a picture and this thing that showed her cancer and she was going to live 94%, so I was like, yes!"
The children at St. Jude aren't the only ones who are living a better life thanks to Jonbenet. She recently went on a shopping trip with her mom to purchase toys for the Toys for Tots drive in Victoria.
And, Jonbenet hopes to one day impact the lives of four-legged friends, as a veterinarian. She says, "I just love animals. Even if it's the most dangerous thing in the world, I still love it. I think it's adorable. "
She won't have to wait until she graduates from veterinary school to start either, because when she turns 10 on January 4th, she wants to start volunteering at Victoria's Dorothy O'Connor Pet Adoption Center.
So, whether it's making sure the dogs and cats feel loved, or helping to improve the life of another child, this pint-size brunette knows the true meaning of helping others.
